By default, SIPDP-3D folders are created in the directory C:\SIGLO-WIN\SIPDP-3D
This directory contains the following sub-directories:
BIN : contains the executable SIPDP-3D.exe
DATA : contains data files such as the transport parameter file (default: 'gaspar.dat')
HELP : contains the help files (such as the one you are reading now)
PREF : contains a file (siglo.ini) where the preferences are defined
RUN : working directory (can be changed by the user); contains input data file and output files and sub-directories (created by SIPDP-3D), ascii, binary and images
temp : contains temporary files
SIPDP-3D Files
in the file siglo.ini in the sub-directory PREF are defined the preferences, i.e. the names of the default files or folders which can be changed by the user and some of the graphic options (style, colors, palettes etc...). DO NOT try to edit this file. This file is automatically modified when the user changes some options in the menu "Preferences" or in the graphic properties menu (obtained by clicking on the right mouse button in the graphics mode (when execution is stopped).
gaspar.dat in the DATA directory contains the SIGLO transport coefficient database
During execution, several files are created in the working directory. By default the working directory is C:\SIGLO-WIN\SIPDP-3D\RUN but this directory can be changed by the user after SIPDP-3D has been started (and before the calculation is initiated by activating the "run" or "graphics" option in the main menu). The main input and output files in the RUN directory are ini3d.inp, geo3d.out, and res3d.out (default names). ini3d.inp contains input data such as: cell dimensions, number of grid points, name of gas mixture (the name must correspond exactly to a name in the database), gas pressure, boundary conditions, voltages applied on the electrodes. geo3d.out contains data related to the cell geometry (electrode positions etc...). res3d.out contains details on some of the plasma properties at the time where the calculation stopped (electron and ion densities, electric potential, surface charges, etc...). These data are used to re-start and continue a simulation from previously stored results. If ini3d.inp, res3d.out, and geo3d.out do not exist when SIPDP-3D is run, default conditions and geometry are proposed to the user which can be modified in the dialog boxes. SIPDP-3D then creates these files.
The file names "gaspar.dat" , "ini3d.inp" , "res3d.out" and "geo3d.out" can be changed in the option File Names of the menu Files
The files res3d.out and geo3d.out can be stored either in ASCII or binary format. The default and recommended format is ("unformatted") binary (the access time for reading and writing is much shorter). The user can change to ASCII by clicking on the appropriate box in the option File Names of the menu Files (see image below).
![]()
Depending on the options chosen by the user, SIPDP-3D may generate other output files. These output files can correspond to results in ASCII or binary format, or images in bitmap format and are stored in the sub-directories ascii, binary and images of the working directory (default name: C:\SIGLO-WIN\SIPDP-3D\RUN). When the user wants to run SIPDP-3D in background and look at the results later, it is possible to store binary files (in the binary subdirectory) at regular time intervals and to play them later using the option Play Back. The way to record these data is define in the Control menu.
The user can choose to save the ASCII values corresponding to a particular graphic displayed on the screen. This can be done while displaying any of the contour plots, or the current and voltage vs time curves. When the user clicks on the Save Matrix option (right mouse button) an ascii file is saved in the sub-directory ASCII. The name of the file is generated automatically in a straightforward manner. The ascii data can then be imported in any standard graphic software such as Microcal Origin®.
