Physical Basis of the SIGLO Software

  • This page gives a short description of the physical models underlying the SIGLO series of discharge modeling software.
  • The codes in the SIGLO series are fluid models which solve numerically equations representing electron and ion transport in a weakly ionized (collisional) plasma coupled with Poisson's equation for the electric field in 1D or 2D cylindrical or rectangular geometries.
  • Charged particle transport is represented by moments of the Boltzmann equations: continuity, momentum and energy equations (only the first two moments are used for ions). The codes in the SIGLO series differ in their dimensionality and in the approximations made for the ionization source term (which make each code suitable for a certain range of conditions).
