The plasma forms on the right side of the cell (anode side) and expands toward the cathode (left side); blue color corresponds to a zero voltage, red color to the maximum voltage (284 V). The maximum of light emission follows the motion of the plasma-sheath interface. The radial field induced close to the dielectric surface on the anode side by the charging of the dielectric contributes to electron heating and light emission (on the light emission movie, the color scale is different for each frame (white corresponds to maximum of light emission at the corresponding time).
